"TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY ISN'T THE ONLY PATH TO FEELINGS OF UNWORTHINESS, IT JUST HAPPENED TO BE MINE."
-Cordila Jochim
From the Core is a memoir spanning 40 years in the desert of what author Cordila Jochim calls "fifty-cent thinking." After a closed-head traumatic brain injury left her severely incapacitated after a fall out of a two-story window at 7-years old, Cor suffered in silence after doctors told her she was fine and it was "all in her head." Hiding her debilitating physical symptoms behind the mask of a booming personality and oversized smile, Cor learned to adapt in order to survive. When a devastating trip to the ER one evening shone a light on a treatment, Cor began to physically recover only to find her road to emotional, mental, and spiritual healing had only just begun. From the Core is for those who have been in the trenches, filthy from the battle and fighting for those lives yet who, audaciously, tenaciously, full of grit and determination, pull themselves forward toward hope.
